Diving in Himalayas

On October 16, 2007 in Mapness by EdgeCrusher

We are proud to share this news with all of our readers (and hopefully future users of our service).

We arranged an agreement with a Polish Himalaya expedition to publish their up to date achievements on our website.

The expedition itself is a pioneer one as its participants will dive in the Tilicho lake in Himalayas which is more than 5000m above sea level. Such an endeavor has never been accomplished before and that makes us even more proud of the fact that we were given the privilege to share news from this journey with other Globetrotters.

What you are about to see is a journey log entirely created with Mapness and it was done in just a few easy steps. Soon everyone will be able to publish journeys while we focus on keeping it as easy as breathing.

The news form the Himalayas may lack some details and have rather brief form but its due to atmospheric conditions that limit the communication with the expedition. We hope that soon the reports will be filled with lots of exciting details and multimedia from the trip.

All the best luck to the brave explorers!

  1. Dominique Said,

Sorry it is NOT a World record… The world record is at 5525 meters in 2000 by a Swiss Diving expedition.
    Best Regards

  2. EdgeCrusher Said,

Could You please provide source link, because google finds nothing? If I’m not mistaken this expedition did the depth record on diving above 5000 meters.

  3. Dominique Said,

    http://www.diving-altitude-record.com
Tilicho lake is at 4914 meters
Swiss Expedition Gyazumba Lake at 5525 meters. Diff. dives more than 30 meters… Polish expedition is not a world record (nore depht record) and for information the Tilicho lake was already dived on 1999…

  4. EdgeCrusher Said,

Well I must agree that the materials are interesting, but could you please quote some more official source, than the one that You published on your own? That would be very helpful, and then I’ll contact the expedition and ask for details. Best regards!

  5. Dominique Said,

A lot, but please if you want ask the tv swiss, the medical center of hyoerbaric swiss, the HMG gov. of nepal, the expedition agency nepal, all the sponsors listed (+ 20), all the members, flight company, diff. diving association etc… and a lot of newspaper… and a lot of diving material tested.. Sorry but I have no time for helping the NO record Tilicho, normally it the job to the divers toi check if it is a record or not… the polish team is light for that.. and no response from the polish team… starne no?

  6. EdgeCrusher Said,

We, as Mapness team, do not officially represent them, and they’re not aware of our discussion here (yet). Maybe your team failed to properly document the fact of accomplishing world record. In that case the Polish expedition would never got any credit for their diving form the Nepal’s ministry of sport would they (and that is published on the journey map)? So unless You come up with something solid i consider this discussion pointless. You can as well contact the expedition directly through http://www.fordon-himalaje2007.pl/index_en.php?id=9. Best regards.

  7. Dominique Said,

No problem at all. Everything is in order with a lot of newpapers, diff. government etc Medias etc.
Polish team as no checking before… ;-) No problem. Today the Record is at 5525 meters ;-)
Sory for trouble et have a nice day
    Greetongs from switzerland
